Ok, so technically, there’s nothing absurd about Stanley Kubrick’s The Killing. It’s a great work of noir whose non-linear structure pre-dates and most likely helped inspired the structure of Pulp Fiction. But at the end of the movie, there is one moment that sticks out like a sore thumb.
I’m not going to spoil it; suffice to say it involves an airplane, a poodle, and a suitcase full of money. I don’t know if it’s just because of the changes in airports since the movie was made… no, actually I do know that it’s not that, it’s just that what happens is actually completely absurd, yet is the complete undoing of Sterling Hayden’s Johnny Clay. You kind of have to see it to believe it, though really, you should see the movie anyways.
